President Sirleaf Donates Rice to Muslims For Ramadan

The office of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has begun the distribution of several bags of rice to about forty-one Mosques and Muslim Communities in Monrovia and its environs. The exercise which began on Monday, is in solidarity with members of the Muslim community in commemoration of the Holy month of Ramadan. About 41 Mosques and Muslim Communities are benefiting from the gesture.

Making the presentations on behalf of the President, the Assistant Chief of Office Staff for Logistics at the Ministry of State, Mr. Varney Sirleaf, lauded members of the Muslim Community in Liberia for holding together in fasting and praying for the country, government and the people of Liberia.

Mr. Sirleaf, who is himself a Muslim, noted that little given in the name and sight of God (Allah) is much, when it is given out of heartfelt kindness, especially during this period of fasting and worshipping by Muslims.

He admonished the receivers to redouble their efforts in praying for the Givers, Liberia, its leaders and people.

Receiving the President’s goodwill donation on behalf of the respective Mosques and Communities, Imans thanked the President for the offer, which they described as a solidarity gesture. Muslim clerics receiving the donation on behalf of their Mosques and Communities included Imam Amadu Sarnor, Abrahim Fumba Sheriff of the Liberia National Muslim Council, Iman Dargoseh, Lamin fahnbulleh and Mohammed Keita of Bilimah, Duala, Eastern Community and Old Bopolu parking Mosque, as well as the Fantaya Mosques respectively.

Mosques and Muslim communities located along the Gardnerville, Paynesville Red Light routes, the Paynesville Red Light Community; ELWA Junction; Congo Town, Sinkor and several Mosques located in the central Monrovia are also expected to benefit from the President Ramadan gesture, which comes to an end on Tuesday.
